Description
Little League baseball at its most basic, including old, baggy uniforms and hand-me-down gloves. Portland, Oregon 1970. The scenario: a skinny pitcher in baggy pants lobs his best pitch, and the batter sends it whistling into the gap in left-center. But wait--the shortstop, usually the best athlete on the team, has a chance to snare it. He races to his left, lunges . . . and it's past him, bouncing over lumpy meadow grass. In years to come the shortstop will have caught the ball, and the batter will have ripped a rising liner over the head of the centerfielder, and the ball is still rolling. . . .
